PR-Speak Translation

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 | Author: Michael

Well worth reading: John Gruber’s translation from PR-Speak to plain English of selected portions of Macrovision’s response to Steve Job’s Thoughts on Music. Savor this one:

PR-Speak:

DRM increases not decreases consumer value.

Plain English:

Up is down. Black is white.

What People Translate

Thursday, February 01st, 2007 | Author: Michael

Given the title of this blog, it is not surprising that a large number of the search phrases leading visitors to Translate This! contains the keywords “translate” or “translation.” But the combination in which those keywords appear are often very unusual. Here are a few new ones I hadn’t seen before:

  • korrektur der lateralen translation
  • translate your rice cooker
  • ipod video translation
  • icon translate

A while back I wrote about a Sergio Leone movie and mentioned the movie score. Since then, search queries for everything from “Harmonica Man” to “Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod” have ranked consistently high. Ennio Morricone is indeed a very popular composer!
